About Javiera Varas Kids

Javiera Varas is an interdisciplinary designer and longtime Production Designer for film and television, with credits on multiple Academy Award–winning productions. When she set out to create a children’s home collection, she brought that same exacting eye for narrative, texture, and detail to the objects that surround a child every day. Her mission is rooted in a beautiful belief: that every single thing in a child’s environment is an opportunity to tell a story, expand curiosity, and introduce a new visual vocabulary. Drawing on Pre-Columbian Andean imagery and Andean traditions — the geometric patterns, the symbolic animals, the rich textile heritage of cultures that thrived long before the Spanish arrived in South America — Javiera weaves ancient stories into contemporary, touchable objects for the youngest members of your family. Birds, in Pre-Columbian Andean cultures, held deep symbolic meaning: messengers between the earthly and spiritual worlds, symbols of freedom, vision, and protection. Bird Friend is more than a comfort object — it is a small ambassador of that legacy, crafted with the same respect for materials and community that has guided Andean artisans for centuries.
